Rudy gay draft year
There bench and role players are also not that impressive, Jason Terry is on his last leg in the NBA, Chris Wilcox is a career journeyman, Jeff Green coming off heart surgery. Rondo was the only player on the Celtics that had any trade value and now he is hurt. Paul Pierce is in the last year of his contract but are the Celtics really going to let go of one of the greatest Celtics of all time. Ray Allen has joined the Miami Heat, Kevin Garrnett is a “all star” this year but only because the fans voted for him. Now thinking of it the big 4 might have brought the Boston Celtics a championship but it might have set them back 10 years of having another chance at one. Now that Rondo has torn his ACL, the chances of the Celtics winning the championship are slim to none, even making the playoffs are now in question because their best player has went down with a season ending injury. Six years later it seems like you can finally write the obituary on the Boston Celtics Era (2008-2013) It only feels like yesterday, when the big 4 formed in Boston, three all time greats in Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce all in search for their first ring joined a little known point guard out of Kentucky (Rajon Rondo), to create one of the best teams in NBA history. Its just sad that the last piece of the NBA championship team in 2004 is now gone in Tyshaun Prince I think Calderon is one of the most underrated players in the NBA but he does not move the needle for the Pistons. The Pistons get a quality player in Calderon who will now be the backup PG behind Brandon Knight. I like the move they made they will compete for a playoff spot next year and the following years with this trade but this trade does not make them Championship contenders and they do not have wiggle room anymore. They have a lot of money tied up in Lowry, Fields, Gay, and Bargnani. Rudy Gay was the best player in this trade and thats why the raptors get a B, the reason why the Raptors do not get higher is because this is their team for the next 3 years. This trade does not eliminate them from championship contention but it does hurt them, this was a cap move and they got some decent players in return. They added a improving player in Ed Davis, a player who is going to replace Rudy Gay with Tyshaun Prince and folks he is not the same Tyshaun Prince from 2004 and Austin Daye gives them depth. It was a move that had to be done or the Grizzlies were going to be in cap hell next year, I like Rudy Gay but he is not a max player and he was not playing like it this year. In the trade the Toronto Raptors obtained Rudy Gay and Hamed Haddadi, the Pistons received Jose Calderon and the Grizzlies obtained Tyshaun Prince, Ed Davis and Austin Daye. The trade was a three team trade involving the Grizzlies, Pistons and the Raptors. The first major trade in the NBA has happened and it involved the Grizzlies leading scorer Rudy Gay.
